About this tool
Useful for updating a name in a contract template, fixing a repeated spelling mistake, or changing a date across a long document. “Whole words only” stops “cat” from also changing “category”. In the replacement, type \n for a new line.
With “Regular expression” on you can use patterns — for example \d{10} finds 10-digit phone numbers — and refer to captured groups in the replacement with $1, $2.
Frequently asked questions
How do I replace a word only when it’s a whole word?
Tick “Whole words only”. Then replacing “art” won’t touch “start” or “article”.
Can I replace text with a line break?
Yes — type \n in the “Replace with” box to insert a new line, or \t for a tab.
What does the regular-expression option do?
It treats the “Find” box as a JavaScript regex pattern, so you can match things like any number (\d+) or an email-like pattern, and reuse groups with $1.
