About this tool
URLs may only contain a limited set of characters. Spaces, &, ?, #, Hindi letters and emoji must be written as % followed by hex codes — for example a space becomes %20 and “₹” becomes %E2%82%B9. Use Component mode for a single value you’re putting into a query string (it encodes &, = and / too), and Full URL mode to clean up a whole link without breaking its structure.
When you decode a full link, the tool also lists its query parameters, which makes long tracking URLs (utm_source, fbclid…) easy to read.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?
encodeURI keeps characters that structure a URL (: / ? & = #). encodeURIComponent encodes them too, which is what you want for a single parameter value.
Should spaces be %20 or +?
%20 works everywhere. + means a space only in HTML form data (application/x-www-form-urlencoded); tick the option if you need that format.
Why does decoding fail?
A % sign must be followed by two hex digits. A stray % (for example “50% off”) isn’t valid encoding — encode it as %25.
