How to Make UPI QR Code for Your Shop (Free)
· ZapToolbox guides
To make a UPI QR code for your shop, open our free UPI QR Code Generator, type your UPI ID exactly as it appears in your UPI app, add your shop name, and download the QR as PNG or SVG. Test it by paying ₹1 from a different phone, then print it for your counter. Customers can scan it with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or any bank's UPI app, and the money goes straight to the bank account linked to that UPI ID.
A printed QR saves you from reading out your number to every customer and reduces wrong-number payments. This guide covers how to create one, when to add an amount, and how to keep you and your customers safe.
What you need before you start
- Your UPI ID (VPA) — it looks like name@okhdfcbank, 98xxxxxx10@ybl or shopname@paytm. Find it on the profile or "receive money" screen of your UPI app.
- The name customers should see, such as "Sharma General Store".
- A second phone to test the code.
How to create a UPI QR code (step by step)
- Open the UPI QR Code Generator on your phone or computer.
- Type your UPI ID carefully. One wrong letter sends money to someone else, or the payment fails.
- Enter the name shown to the payer — your shop or business name.
- Leave Amount empty for a general counter QR where customers type the bill amount. Fill it in only for a specific bill (see below).
- Optionally add a note, such as "Shop bill", and a caption under the code, like "Scan & pay with any UPI app".
- Download SVG for printing (it stays sharp at any size) or PNG for WhatsApp and screens.
- Scan it from another phone and pay a small amount. Check that your shop name shows up correctly and the money reaches your account.
The code uses the standard upi://pay format that every UPI app understands. Our tool only creates the image — it never touches your money and charges nothing.
UPI QR code with amount or without?
| Type | When to use | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Without amount (open) | Shop counter, stall, delivery, any bill size | Kirana store, chai stall, salon |
| With fixed amount | One specific bill or a fixed fee | ₹499 class fee, tiffin monthly bill, invoice sent on WhatsApp |
A fixed-amount code pre-fills the amount in the customer's app. Never print a fixed-amount code for your counter — every bill is different.
Personal UPI ID or business QR?
You can make a QR from any UPI ID, including your personal one. For a small shop just starting out, that works. As sales grow, consider a merchant or business account from your bank or from the business versions of popular UPI apps. These usually offer things a plain QR cannot:
- A sound box that announces each payment aloud, so you do not have to check your phone during rush hours.
- Separate business statements, which make accounting and GST filing cleaner.
- Higher limits and features meant for frequent business receipts.
Banks also have their own rules about using savings accounts for regular business receipts, so ask your bank which account type suits you.
Are there charges on UPI payments for shopkeepers?
Customers pay nothing extra for UPI, and person-to-person UPI transfers are free. On the merchant side, NPCI introduced a revised merchant discount rate (MDR) framework from 15 October 2026. As reported, small merchants receiving up to ₹1 lakh a month through UPI QR directly into their bank accounts stay at zero MDR, merchant payments up to ₹2,000 stay free, and some larger merchant payments above ₹2,000 can carry a small fee paid by the merchant, not the customer. The exact rules depend on your account type and bank, so confirm with your bank or payment provider before you rely on any figure.
How to display your UPI QR at the counter
- Print big enough. About 8–10 cm wide is easy to scan from a step away. Use the SVG file so it prints sharply.
- Laminate it or use a plastic stand so it survives water, oil and sunlight.
- Keep dark on light. A black code on a white background scans on every phone. Light-coloured codes on dark backgrounds can fail.
- Add your shop name and UPI ID below the code, so customers can confirm they are paying the right person.
- Use "High" error correction if the print might get scratched or partly covered.
Keep your shop safe from QR scams
- Check the code regularly. Fraudsters sometimes paste their own QR sticker over a shop's code. Make it a habit to look at it every morning.
- Always confirm the payment arrived on your own phone, app or sound box — never accept a customer's screen as proof. Fake "payment successful" screenshots are common.
- You never need your UPI PIN to receive money. If someone asks you to scan a QR or enter your PIN "to receive a refund", it is a scam.
- Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with anyone, including people claiming to be from your bank.
Sharing your QR code itself is safe: it only lets people send money to you.
Other QR codes your shop can use
Our general QR Code Generator can make codes for your WhatsApp number (for orders), your Google Maps or review link, your menu or catalogue link, or your shop's WiFi. These are static codes, so they never expire and need no subscription. A small stand with your payment QR on one side and a WhatsApp order QR on the other works well for many shops.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate a UPI QR code for free?
Enter your UPI ID and name in the UPI QR Code Generator and download the image. There is no fee and no sign-up.
Can I create a UPI QR code with a specific amount?
Yes. Fill in the Amount field, and the amount is pre-filled when the customer scans. Leave it empty for a counter QR.
Does the QR code work with all UPI apps?
Yes. It uses the standard UPI payment format supported by Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and bank apps.
Does a UPI QR code expire?
No. It contains your UPI ID, so it keeps working as long as that UPI ID is active.
