Convert PDF to JPG in High Quality (and Under 200KB)

· ZapToolbox guides

To convert a PDF to JPG in high quality, open our PDF to JPG tool, choose your file, pick JPG at 200 or 300 DPI, and download the images. If a form needs the JPG under 200KB or 100KB, convert at 150 DPI first and then shrink it to the exact size with an Image Compressor. Both tools run in your browser, so your documents are not uploaded.

Portals for exams, scholarships and government services often accept certificates and signatures only as JPG, and images are easier to share on WhatsApp than PDFs. The trick is choosing the right resolution: too low and the text blurs, too high and the file is several MB.

How to convert PDF to JPG (step by step)

  1. Open PDF to JPG on your phone or laptop.
  2. Choose the PDF. It is opened inside your browser using Mozilla's pdf.js engine, the same one Firefox uses.
  3. Pick the image format: JPG (smaller) or PNG (sharpest).
  4. Pick the resolution (see the table below). 150 DPI is a good default.
  5. Leave "Pages" blank for all pages, or type the ones you need, like 3 or 1-2.
  6. Tap "Convert to images" and download each page, or the ZIP of all pages.

What DPI gives high quality?

DPI (dots per inch) decides how many pixels each page gets. More pixels means sharper text — and bigger files.

DPIBest forFile size
72 DPIQuick previews on screenSmallest; small text can blur
150 DPIPhones, WhatsApp and most online formsModerate
200 DPIClear document copies with small printLarger
300 DPIPrintingLargest

For "high quality" on screen, 200 DPI is usually the sweet spot. Choose 300 DPI only if you plan to print the image, because the file can be several times bigger with no visible benefit on a phone.

JPG or PNG: which should you choose?

If a form says "JPG/JPEG only", do not upload PNG, even if it looks better.

PDF to JPG under 200KB (or 100KB, 50KB, 20KB)

Many forms combine "JPG only" with a strict size. Here is the reliable two-step method:

  1. Convert the page with PDF to JPG at 150 DPI, JPG format. Converting only the page you need keeps things simple.
  2. Open Image Compressor, choose "Target file size", type your limit (for example 200, 100 or 50), and drop the JPG in.
  3. The compressor finds the highest quality that fits under the target. It only scales the image down if quality alone cannot reach it.
  4. Open the result and zoom in. If names, roll numbers and dates are readable, upload it.

Very small limits like 20 KB are common for signatures and photos, not full A4 pages. A full page squeezed to 20 KB will usually be hard to read, so check the form again — it may expect only a cropped signature or photo. For those, our Exam Photo & Signature Resizer sets the exact pixel size and KB together.

How to convert just one page of a PDF to JPG

Type that page number in the "Pages" box, for example 3. Only that page is converted, which is faster and gives you a single file instead of a ZIP. For several specific pages, separate them with commas.

Common problems and fixes

Going the other way: JPG to PDF

If you have photos of documents and the form wants a PDF, use Image to PDF to combine them into one file. Keeping both directions in mind saves a lot of confusion when different portals ask for different formats.

Is it safe to convert PDF to JPG online?

Many converters upload your PDF to a server and keep it for a while. ZapToolbox does all the work inside your browser, so marksheets, ID cards and bank statements stay on your device. There is no sign-up and no watermark on the images.

Frequently asked questions

Use 200 DPI for screens or 300 DPI for printing, and choose PNG if you need perfectly crisp text and file size does not matter.

How can I convert PDF to JPG below 100KB?

Convert at 150 DPI as JPG, then use Image Compressor with a 100 KB target. Check that the text is still readable before uploading.

Can I convert PDF to JPG on my phone?

Yes. The tool works in mobile browsers on Android and iPhone, and you can download all pages together as a ZIP.

Why is my converted JPG so large?
