About this tool
CBSE’s rule is percentage = CGPA × 9.5. The 9.5 came from CBSE’s analysis of past results — the average marks of students in each grade band — and many Indian universities use the same rule. So a CGPA of 8.4 is about 79.8%.
Universities differ, though: VTU and some AICTE colleges use (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, Mumbai University uses 7.1 × CGPI + 11 for its 10-point scale, and others publish their own tables. Employers and foreign universities usually accept the conversion printed on your marksheet or an official certificate, so check your university’s rules for anything official.
