Date → timestamp

How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter

  1. Paste a timestamp to see it as a date in IST, UTC and ISO format.
  2. Or pick a date, time and time zone to get its timestamp.
  3. Copy the value you need.

About this tool

A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970 (the “epoch”). It’s how databases, APIs, log files and JWT tokens store time, because it’s the same number everywhere in the world. JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds instead (13 digits rather than 10) — the converter detects which you pasted.

India Standard Time is UTC + 5:30 with no daylight saving, so IST = UTC time plus 5 hours 30 minutes all year round.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a Unix timestamp to IST?

Paste it in “Timestamp → date”; the IST row shows the Indian time. Manually: add 19,800 seconds (5 h 30 min) to the UTC time.

Is my timestamp in seconds or milliseconds?

10 digits (for current dates) means seconds; 13 digits means milliseconds. Auto-detect handles both.

What is the year 2038 problem?

Systems that store timestamps as signed 32-bit integers overflow on 19 January 2038. Modern 64-bit systems and JavaScript aren’t affected.
